The Computers Nobody Wanted

Paul Strassmann arrived in the United States from Czechoslovakia in 1948 after serving as an anti-Nazi guerilla soldier from 1944 45. Over a period of 47 years he concentrated exclusively on the management of information technologies. He held the most senior computer executive positions for five large organizations from 1961 through 2003, including the post of Director of Defense Information where he received the Distinguished Public Service medal, and the appointment as Chief Computer Executive of NASA, where he received the medal for Exceptional Service. He has authored seventeen books and hundreds of technical articles, has videotaped dozens of lectures, and has held academic posts at the University of Connecticut, Imperial College in London, the US Military Academy at West Point, and as a Distinguished Professor at the George Mason University.
