很沉重的一本书。他们死于饥荒，死于劳动营，死于疾病，对谁也不能交心，担心告密，太无助了；他们逃离朝鲜，担心被中国政府遣返，对留在朝鲜的亲人感到愧疚，到了韩国也仍然无法真正融入，即使是朝鲜顶尖大学的毕业生，医学院毕业行医多年的人也没什么用处，得重新来过，因为他们的知识也是落后的。谈到朝鲜，没人会想到爱情，但这种美好的感情也是要被摧毁扭曲的。脱北者的叙述或许不全然真实，可能存在夸大和一些无法证实的传言，但大体是可信的。他们不再相信金家的谎言了，脱北者日渐增加，朝鲜还能存在多久？除却真正发自内心对朝鲜民众的同情，太多政治的你进我退了，美国、苏联和中国考虑的更多的是朝鲜半岛对自己的战略意义，国家和民族的分裂和仇视、饥荒死多少人似乎都不是那么重要。就连现在韩国对中国遣返脱北者的态度也是一样复杂。
