自尊、自知，与自制，
只有这三者能使人有权威。
然不是求权威（权威本身是不召自来的）
而是依法生活下去，
依法生活而无所恐惧；
因为对的就是对的，按照对的去做
便是智慧，不顾后果如何。
Self-reverence, self-knowledge, self-control,
These three alone lead life to socereign power.
Yet not for power (power of herself would come uncall’d for)
but to live by law,
Acting the law we live by without fear;
And, because right is right, to follow rjght
Were wisdom in the scorn kf consequence.
