路过… (normative or descriptive?)
The origins of texting and emojis, however, came from the limitations of technology, rather than from their resources. Early cell phones used the traditional telephone push-button set to convey brief texts. Users had to repeatedly press a number on a keypad, say 2, to get the letters A, B, and C (two presses for A, three for B, four for C). Typing in this way was clumsy, and forms of abbreviation and acronyms developed to replace whole words. C U @ 4, BRB, LOL, and the like were strategies of simplification. They worked as word and symbol puzzles. During the heyday of this phone texting (the 1990s and early 2000s), a range of acronyms developed, some serious and some ironic, to express conditions and emotional responses.
