She(Justine Frischmann) was not the only member of Suede with misgivings. In Frischmann's recollection, as the year wound on,Bernard Butler became increasingly prone to causing tense scenes at rehearsals - though his ire was more a matter of aesthetics than career prospects. 'He wasn't a fantastic communicator,' says Frischmann. 'It seemed like he didn't really know how to get his opinion across in a non-aggressive way. I remember when Bernard turned up, he said that the band he was in before was called The Foundry, and his whole thing was that he wanted to be really ordinary; he was into the working-class, salt of the earth thing. And it became increasingly obvious that Brett's vision was a little more twisted than that. I think Bernard was profoundly uncomfortable with all the sexual ambiguity.'
