Gay Conversion (ex-gay or gay)
	lobotomy: needles into the anterior part of the brain to cut ‘the pathway’
	Electricity: electroshock, ‘intensities considerably higher than usually employed on human’.
	Psychoanalytic conversion
	Many gays voluntarily embraced conversion therapy. (seek ‘cure’, will to kill the gay self)

Gay Passing (closeted or out)
	“Don’t ask, don’t tell.”
	Dramatically changed during advocacy for combating AIDS (advocate as gay).
	conversion is to all audiences while passing is selective (in different context). 

Gay Covering (normals or queers)
	Normal vs Queer
	-Normal: openly gay individual who embrace a politics of assimilation
		 — see queer as outliers (bringing bad names, wrong perception to the gay community)
	-Queer: gays who emphasize their difference from the mainstream
		 — think normals attempt to secure straight acceptance, shamefully.
	4 axes of covering
		appearance: physically present (acting straight? feminine?)
		affiliation: cultural identifications (community, fashion, art, TV shows)
		activism: how much one politicizes one’s identity
		association: choice of fellows
