According to the Guardian newspaper, 12 May 2011, the United Nations announced that one third of the world’s food goes to waste every year. Over 1.3 billion tonnes of food is discarded, not because there is no one to eat it, but because people do not have money to buy the food. And so, thousands of people die of starvation every day and billions more go hungry for lack of money or any other means to care for themselves.
