I take Aristotle to be one of the more tough-minded, rationalistic thinkers the West produced prior to the emergence of the modern post-Cartesian systems. He spawned in Averroës the most anti-religious and rationalistic thinker of the Middle Ages. He is the virtual inventor of the principle of causality, the causal thinker par excellence in the ancient world. Were he alive today, I dare say, his interests would be in theoretical physics, astrophysics, DNA-molecule research, and the other natural and social sciences which collectively go together to make up what Heidegger calls “cybernetics”.
