全书最后一句话：
他倒下的时候，看到了那辆被两辆大货车夹在中间撞毁的小轿车，车上的孩子们还在窗后快乐地挥动着小手。
英文原版中对应的句子是：
As he fell, Leamas saw a small car smashed between great lorries, and the children waving cheerfully through the window.
小轿车不应该特指。相反，孩子们才该特指，并且原文并没说孩子们在车上。这是一处严重的错译，直接导致小说结尾和前文的伏笔脱节。伏笔就是大货车，lorries。
Lorries在小说中共出现三次。除去26章一次，其余两次都是在25章“柏林墙”，也就是Leamas和Liz驾车逃亡时：
It was still quite early in the morning and he’d hoped to miss most of the autobahn traffic to Karlsruhe but the heavy lorries were already on the move. 
He managed to pull off the road into a lay-by, scrambled out of the car and stood, breathing heavily, staring at the hurtling stream of giant lorries. 
所以他们之前开的车被撞毁了，驾车的德国男孩死了。那么在窗后快乐挥手的“孩子们”是谁？是小轿车的窗还是大货车的窗还是别的什么窗？
