Migrants can be classified as either obligate or facultative, depending on whether they always migrate or do so only in an environmentally-determined manner, typically mediated by cues associated with the deterioration of local habitat conditions,

    有这么严格的区别么?

Gull populations that migrated prior to 1940 became sedetary within a few decades, now feeding on rufuse dumps outside towns during the winter. In this instance, humans provides a new abundant source of food, available consistently around the year, and the gulls changed their their behavior to utilize it(Lack 1968). Contrastingly, the eastern house finch is one of the very few documented cases of the establishment of a new large-scale pattern of migratory behaviour under natural conditions(Able and Belthoff 1998) Phylogenetic studies fail to reveal a deep embeded ancestral pattern for migration(Piesma et al. 2005). Rather, the evidence implies that migratory adaptations are simple extensions of traits that already exist to function in other contexts, like flight.
