I am torn between 3 stars and 4 stars. I chose 3 because I am very disappointed by the whole book. Before reading, I knew this probably will be the slowest slow burn romance I've ever read. Well, it turned out to be true. Halfway through the book, I was like are these two characters gonna have sex in the very last chapter? In chapter 29, my assumption proved to be true. I was reading Chapter 20, thinking this last chapter better blow up my fucking mind, otherwise I... Well, it did not. What I like about this book: 1. sports genre 2. two characters 3. slow-burn romance
What I hate about the book:
1. mediocre writing 2. buildup is weird 3. tardiness 4. the last chapter of sex scene was super-awkward
I have a lot of expectations for this author because every booktuber said they absolutely loved the book and highly recommended it. I knew the author was known as the queen of slow-burn romance or whatever. But the writing was just not for me. I find that some writers like using certain types of words in one of book or the other, or in this case, it's desensitized. Maybe I'm biased considering I have read 7 books of Samantha Young, man that's a lot. I guess I am getting used to a certain type of writing. Somehow I found British or Irish authors are really a good fit for me. Most of the books I read by a Brit or Irishman or woman is smooth and delicate.
I am saying Samantha Young is the best romance writer. She is not. And I never gave her book 4 stars or above. But she writes sex scene well and the sexual connection and appeal in her book was tolerable. Well in most of Samantha's novels the man and woman have sex halfway through the book.
Anyway I don't know what I'm talking. Maybe it's time for me to stop reading cheesy romance and switch to a different genre.
