Sonnet 30. "When to the sessions of sweet silent thought"
[Q1]
When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past, I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought, And with old woes new wail my dear time’s waste:
[Q2]
Then can I drown an eye, unus’d to flow, For precious friends hid in death’s dateless night, And weep afresh love’s long since cancell’d woe, And moan the expense of many a vanish’d sight:
[Q3]
Then can I grieve at grievances foregone, And heavily from woe to woe tell o’er The sad account of fore-bemoaned moan, Which I new pay as if not paid before.
[C]
But if the while I think on thee, dear friend, All losses are restor’d and sorrows end.
其他译文均未表达“出庭”的含义或动态,原文中也没有直接表达;但我仍然觉得这种译法很好,因为“remembrance”在《牛津高阶双解词典》中的释义为“the act or process of remembering an event in the past or a person who is dead”,除了“被传唤”以外,它本身含有一些其他的动态。
When I sit alone in silence and remember the past, I get depressed about all the things I don’t have that I once strived for, and I add to old griefs new tears for all the valuable time I’ve wasted. (来源:https://www.sparknotes.com/nofear/shakespeare/sonnets/sonnet_30/ )
When I’m silently reflecting on things that have happened in the past, I feel disappointed that I failed to get the things I wanted. Old sorrows feel new again, and I complain about how I wasted my precious time. (来源:https://www.litcharts.com/poetry/william-shakespeare/sonnet-30-when-to-the-sessions-of-sweet-silent-thought )
In summary, Shakespeare tells us – and the Fair Youth to whom he addresses Sonnet 30 – that when he starts to think back over his life, he begins to feel down when he reflects how he has failed to achieve the things he wanted, and has wasted so much time.(https://interestingliterature.com/2017/03/a-short-analysis-of-shakespeares-sonnet-30-when-to-the-sessions-of-sweet-silent-thought/ )
