“Imperial intoxication” rather than “colonial intoxication”

The book highlights the continuity of administration surrounding alcohol from pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial periods in Indochina. The notion of "alcohol regime" is enlightening for my own research on beer as I myself am neither interested in nor capable of narrating the story like that from the grand perspective of politics or metropole. Nevertheless, lingering on the perspective holds back its narration on Indochina's own cultural tradition of drinking, which renders it less attractive. The tech history part is sort of disjointed. It thus remains a tricky problem how to break out of the state-society analytical framework in the history of technology, food or material culture.
