Mother and I, Tree and Boy
The first time I read this story at my age of 13, it was a Chinese version in Reader Digest. The words were simple, and so was the plot, but it touched me. In the following hours after reading it, I cannot help recalling every line in the story. Then I told my mother about it. She looked thoughtful for a moment and said with a smile, “That’s exactly what a mother’s love is.”
Now, after about ten years, rereading this story, again I was touched. Moreover, I surprisingly realize that these years I was just doing as the boy did and my mother as the tree.
The same as the boy, as I grew up, I began to leave my home from time to time. In middle school, since I lived in the dormitory, I went home every week. When I entered the high school, saying I wanted to focus on my learning, I went home twice a month. And now, I’m a college student. Considering the distance between Jiangsu and Guangdong, I only go home twice a year. I still remembered the moment when I told my mother I wanted to go to Nanjing for college. She was very down. She didn’t utter a word in a long time. The night before I uploaded the application form, when we were watching TV, she suddenly gave me a hug, still not saying anything. Last night, when we were talking on the phone, she seemed very happy. I asked her, “why? Is there anything special?” She said, “Within 30 days, you will be back! I’ve been counting.” For a while, I was lost for words. In fact, her birthday is coming in two days, but she didn’t mention it. She has been waiting for me to come home since I left, just as the tree did for the boy.
In the story, the boy finally came back when he was tired. And so did I. Every time I felt tired, I would miss home. In fact, every time I went home, I was always tired. Sometimes I went home and said, “I’m tired. I don’t want to say anything.” Mother would make the bed for me and say nothing. Sometimes I said, “I was hurt. I want to talk.” She would comfort me and wipe my tears away. Once, I said, “Mother, one day I will grow up to be a strong tree so that you can rely on me.” Mother smiled, “I hope you never grow up and I can be your tree forever.”
Mother was the giving tree while I was the boy. In fact, every mother is a giving tree and every child is the boy. Mothers are always giving because they love their children. But children shouldn’t be just wanting. We children should love our mothers and spend more time with them and bring them real happiness. Hope all the mothers in the world are really happy forever!
