China Reading Daily (中华读书报) reports that a new Chinese edition of a book by Turkey’s nobel laureate, Orhan Pamuk, will be launched this month (January). Entitled 《别样的色彩》, it is co-translated by Zong Xiaofei (宗笑飞) and Yang Weidong (杨卫东).
Curiously, the Chinese edition will not be from Orhan’s original Turkish. Instead, it will be based upon the Englishtranslation by Maureen Freely, Other Colors: Essays and a Story. I say “curiously” because I interviewed the Chinese translator of Pamuk’s My Name is Red (我的名字叫红), Shen Zhixing (沈志兴), a few years back...
