英语写作的经典，提倡一种明了的文风

From my perspective, no book in shorter sapce, with fewer words, will help any writer more than this persistent little volume which the work remains a nonpareil: direct, correct, and delightful.

Truth be told, i was a student that needed help in my punctuation, word usuage, and style. i hope that the day will come when my English writing can meet the demand that expected from Strunk.


i think every one who is ever going to make it in the writing field, this book will be your best guide. Stick to the principle mentioned in its pages and you will achieve your goals. That is , of courese, assuming you have any writing ability in you at all.


So, buy it, study it, enjoy it. It's as timeless as a book can be in our age of volubility.

英文文法的基本规则：

Rule 1: Form the possessive singular of nouns with's

单词名词加's

Rule 2: In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last

三个并列，除最后，其他用逗号隔开
Rule 3: Enclose parenthetic expressions between commas

逗号之间放插入句
Rule 4: Place a comma before and or but introducing an independent clause

在and或but前加逗号
Rule:5 do not join independent clauses by a comma

不要用逗号连接独立从句（用分号）
Rule 6 do not break sentences in two

不要将句子断成两部分
Rule 7 A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence muyst refer to the grammatical subject

放在开头的短语要和句子的语法相一致
Rule 8 Divice words at line-ends, in accordance with their formation and pronunciation

根据拼写和发音，在一行末尾将单词分开 （大概不会遇到。。又不是出书）

英文写作的基本规则

Rule 9 Make the paragraph the unit of composition:one paragraph to each topic

将段落成为文章的单元，一个段落只表达一个主题
Rule 10 As a rule, begin each paragraph with a topic sentence, end it in conformity

在每一段落开始要点题，段尾要扣题（小学就这么教了。。普遍的原则不分语言啊）
Rule 11 Use the active voice

用主动（有时候也可偶尔用一下被动）


Rule 12 Put statements in postive form

陈述句用肯定说法（一定要避免模拟两可，暧昧，拖沓的表达）
Rule 13 Omit needless words

删除不必要的词（并不是说不要用长句，而是要确保每个词都有用）
Rule 14 Avoid a succession of loose sentences

避免连续使用松散的句子（也不能连续用紧凑，会显得呆板）
Rule 15 express co-ordinate ideas in simliar form

使用想通的结构表达并列的意思（即平行结构）
Rule 16 Keep related words together

使相关的词放在一起
Rule 17 In summaries , keep to one tense

在总结中，要用同一种时态
Rule 18 place the emphatic words of a sentence

将强调的词放在句末 （这个狠有道理）

列出这些规则，怎么写可取，怎么不可取，没有解释，没有哲理。



不过当然是对的。记着即可。



不过也不容易做到，



董桥说，“文笔要清楚明白，先决条件不是造句的功力，而是思想的清晰。易言之，看通事体，整理思绪，加上肚子里的学问有条不紊，写文章有了经验，文笔才会清晰明白”


关键在于“肚子里的学问”，然后，便是多写了，
