Most laymen would be awed by the investigative and critical nature of this book. At a time that sees the waning popularity of Marxism or class conflict views, this book therefore provides an alternative explanation to most of our contemporary riddle. Why isn't there a liberal-labor coalition in the US like other leading democracies? How does corporate community wield their influence through the veins of politics in the US? What is the true nature of the seemingly undefiled democracy? It also benefits readers who want to understand political institutions and their interactions with the society, especially on such topic as how a dominant class can artfully suffocate any institutional transition that goes against their interests, which partly explains the persistent nature of institutions.
The flaws underlying its methodology are also obvious. The statistical evidences are still, to the contrary of the authors' beliefs, insufficient. Especially on the question how public opinions get translated into votes, the author does not provide a clear image that is supported by most recent research results. The pervasive use of interlock analysis could also be misleading, as this is also a common phenomena in European democracies where there isn't such corporate community dominance.
