He is just Jim Morrison
“when I finished writing the early drafts of the book, I didn't like Jim Morrison as much as I did when I started it"
When Jerry Hopkin marked at the end, I did understand what he meant. I felt it too. Many time when I was reading this book, I asked myself again and again:"Is this my favorite musician??"
Yet I did get something understood at the end. Like Jim said, Jim Morrison is nobody. Actually, everyone is nobody. Who do you think you are? Even your album sell well, even you are popular, even you earn millions, who do you think you are? This is also the problem of many "Stars", they thought they are loved by whole world, like gods, but they are not. They are still unknown to many people in the world, in the later decades. They still die. They can crap too. Jim is just sincere, he didn't want to be treated like a rock star. He wanted to offer the music, the poets, and have fun in this world, nothing else. But the crowd, the audience are gathering for something else on the concerts, not for the music. This also explains why all the attention drew to Jim Morrison instead of the group as a whole that should deserve.
I forgot which musician once commented about Jimi Hendrix: "he is too weak. But if you want to rock 'n' roll, you can't be weak. You have to be really tough." This applied to Jim as well. He is vulnerable and sensitive as a poet. So he lost very quickly. I can see his rapid growth and accumulations are the period before he started the band, when he read obsessively. After that, he didn't make very big progress. Thus the soul withered, he drained.
The part that bored me was about the Miami trail. I really hate this kind of stuff. Just like the accusations about MJ always bothered me so much. I admire and love MJ the same.
Anyway, just a little bit reminder. Fitness is really important for one's appearance. I think there will be much less people attracted by Jim Morrison if his aspect kept as his last years. I found the feeling of "Alexander the Great" really fits his early years. And the late period is more like a guru from Greek.
He is just Jim Morrison, or you might call him the poet, James Douglas Morrison. When he met with other doors, and combined with them, his intellect shone. He is extremely clever and even will give some bad pranks to you as a child. I like him and accept him as a dear friend, which is completely different from my original fancy about him as an intangible genius.
