A Book to Keep and Go Back To
Giving it four stars for Rilke's moving sincerity. It is interesting to see the words written by someone my own age - 27- almost a century ago, and the form of correspondence sometimes gives me the illusion of us being two peers comparing notes on our life lessons. My favourite is his repeated emphases on one's inner strength, on the vital importance (and the inevitability) of one's solitude, and last but the most resounding, on patience. A friend once said all books should be thrown away after they are read, but this one I will keep, as one can continue to draw strength and discover new things from it as time and experience transform a mind.
