Summary of Growing Old in America: Expectations vs. Reality
Recently, an American new Pew Research Center has carried out a survey into teenagers, middle-aged adults and senior citizen’s different opinions on growing old. Here are some of the main findings
To begin with, what are the potential markers of old age? Almost all of this sample think that they are forgetfulness, becoming sexually inactive, a serious illness and so on.
Furthermore, The survey findings may seem to
confirm the old saying that you’re never too old to feel young. Among 18 to 29 year-olds, almost all of them say they feel their age or older than their age. Just few of them say they feel younger. By contrast, among adults 65 and older, most of them say they feel younger than their age, compared with a few senior citizen who say they feel exactly their age or older than their age.
Last but not least, what I mention in the first tip can also be the downsides of getting old. On the contrary, most of the respondents ages 65 and older say they can have more time with families , hobbies and travel. Moreover, The Upsides of Getting Old consist of Less stress, More respect and so on. However , most of teenagers and middle-aged adults make a conclusion that there are no advantage of growing old.
I would appreciate it if you could know that Getting old is a double-edged sword from my summary.
