I'm proof that people are't born with talent. If you listen to my early recordings, I can't play guitar and I can't really sing or write music very well either. It's all come through practice; everything comes through practise. You start off with a little spark, and it's whether or not you nurture that spark. You have to expand it and work it."
“I worked non-stop to make sure that I had a solid fan base who were into it, so that when I came out with a second album, the radio stations were instantly on it--and spining it a hundred times a day.” 。
1、I was always, always playing, at any opportunity. Even if I was playing to no one, I'd make sure I was doing something. I did't want to sit about. And it was great for getting to know people.
2、If you don't actually need to do a degree to get a job, then go out and experience it. If you're going to be a musician, your education is going to come from writing songs, doing shows, practising, meeting people and networking.
3、Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
4、The first songs and shows you write and do will always be terrible, but you have to get those bad ones out of the way and refine your talent to a point where you start writing and playing good stuff every day.
5、...once you've found your voice, stick with it, even if people are telling you it sounds odd and won't work. Just keep on doing it, and eventually it will work.
6、The key to failure is to try and please everyone.
7、...when you become successful, you live out every dream you have for yourself in a matter of months - so you constantly have to make new dreams. I've definitely found that to be true.
8、I think it's best to stick to things that you can relate to yourself as a person, not as a celebrity - to write songs about love, hatred, pain, death and all that sort of stuff.
