MAYA principle
As everybody knows, we live in a fast-paced era. On daily basis, endless new enterprises, new technologies, new stars come out to people's view and part of them disappear swiftly. Derek Thompson analyzes "hit" phenomenons historically as well as those across fields. They include impressionist masterpieces, songs (call me maybe), novels (50 shades of grey) etc.
Then Derek mentioned MAYA principle, which is Most Advanced, Yet Acceptable. People are attracted to fashionable things, but prefer familiarity. So designers/ marketing people need to keep in mind: learn to design for the future, while balancing your design with your users' present stage of skills and mindset.
Derek used tons of examples to demonstrate his point in this long-written book. But many chapters just keep saying one point, again and again. It would be much better if Derek made it concisely.
