ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Frank Stockton was bom in Philadelphia in 1834. He wrote

many stories, some ofthem about the sea. He wrote The Lady

or the Tiger? in 1884. Later, somebody made it into a film.

Stockton lived in West Virginia and died in 1902.

Stacey Aumonier was bom in England in 1887 and lived

mostly in London. He wrote many short stories but he was a

painter and an actor too. He died quite young in 1928.

Alfred Burrage was bom in 1889 and also lived in London.

He wrote many books of short stories. Readers in America

likcd The Waxwork very much, so he madc it into a play for

television in 1951. He died in 1956.
