阿瑟·柯南·道尔爵士（Sir Arthur Conan Doyle，1859—1930），英国小说家，因塑造了成功的侦探人物──歇洛克·福尔摩斯而成为了侦探小说历史上最伟大，最重要的作家。除此之外他还曾写过多部其他类型的小说，如科幻、历史小说、爱情小说、戏剧、诗歌等。在一八八七年的《比顿圣诞年刊》上，他发表了《血字的研究》，从此，“歇洛克·福尔摩斯”这个名字出现在了世界文坛的华丽舞台上，并在《波希米亚丑闻》之后轰动并影响了整个世界。柯南·道尔一生共创作了六十个福尔摩斯故事，包括五十六个短篇和四部中篇小说，前后经过了四十年。柯南·道尔影响了后世所有的侦探小说家，改变了侦探小说的历史，为侦探小说的发展，甚至世界文学的发展都作出了重要贡献。
