I picked this one because it has a story of a Japanese soldier in Manchuria during WWII.As I read along,I realise it is a surreal story with multiple sidelines, not my usual reading choice.But suprisingly,I couldn't stop until I finish the whole book, and found meself enjoyed it overall.Anna picked the same book as my Xmas gift,must mean sth good.

前面一开始各种奇怪的人和事物纷纷登场，不同主线分别展开，但是条理清晰，让人一直想读下去看下一步会发生什么。到最后大概3/4的时候，开始有点没头没脑的发展，尤其是出于个人原因不喜欢日本在内蒙那段战争描写，最后期待的结尾没有任何高潮，任何惊喜出现，就悄无声息的结束了。

比起海边的卡夫卡读起来要顺畅的多，也许是不同译者的不同风格。Jay Rubin的语言比较平实，干觉上跟赖明珠的中译本风格很像。

意象和隐喻很多 一个接一个的谜团 不过读的时候就觉得应该不会直截了当地解开的。那句对妻子哥哥的评价可以用到太多人身上了。If there was any consistency in him, it must be his inconsistency of theory.

读完之后一头雾水……从头到尾穿插各种战争年代的故事，又有寻找离家出走妻子的主线，还有梦中的另外一个世界…想了半天人物之间的联系，什么都没搞明白。因为喜欢村上的碎碎念的文风还是读了下来，关于战争期间的一些故事真实到令人心碎。
