无来由的偏爱和帮助是廉价的。看一个人的心地如何，要看她对没有利害关系的人、甚至弱于她的人的态度。作者如果怜悯Mrs Sucksby这种两面三刀的牙尖婆子，那说明她也是同类了。另外最烦的是，第一章没读完就闻到玛丽苏内味儿了。情节毫无冲突，忍不了，就这还宣传是最会讲故事的author之一，无语子。

Fingersmith敘事的主軸是「表象與真實」的對位，顛覆「眼見為憑」的常律，Sarah Waters讓讀者看到的，不儘然是事實的全部，多半是事態的一個片段．她從第二本著作Affinity開始，即鍾愛二個不同人物的第一人稱觀點，及交錯的時間線來進行故事，到了Fingersmith更是是爐火純青．作者偏愛破壞對外貌的第一印象、挑戰對人品的刻板觀念、質疑約定俗成的愛情界線．
