Giovanni's Room读得我好悲伤,Baldwin太会写伤害了,虽然这部没有Another Country构架饱满、反思深刻,但是那皮开肉绽撕裂的疼痛慢慢露出给你看,让你心疼的同时又从不美化任何角色。作为人的弱点、残忍、自私、无力和厌烦都平平坦坦得放在那儿,恨也恨不起,爱也不能全身心爱,只是在脑中再不离去。

很喜欢鲍德温的短篇,于是借来这本。略失望。相较于作者那些自传性很强的短篇,这本书有太明显的编故事痕迹。可惜故事不太有说服力,人物不立体,相互间关系也很单薄。表情描写,grin这个词用了上百次。对意大利性格的刻板印象也还停留在对司汤达的邯郸学步。大段大段借景抒情显得略矫情。作者避开了自己的黑人身份,单独处理同性恋主题,白开水似的对白可以看出作者对一个白人世界的艺术处理是多么力不从心。整体读下来很像看了部好莱坞电影。
