Daphne Du Maurier's writing is so atmospheric. The way she writes about nature... she really brings you to Manderley.
And the mystery, the plot itself is original. Like many others, I didn't see the twist coming either. And the flawed characters are memorable too. I don't think we'd ever forgotten them, even the ghost-like Rebecca.
Oh my God.... Surprise after surprise... Really lucky not to know anything about it beforehand. It's so powerful and convincing that some impression will remain in your head forever.
Such a page-turner indeed! 我这么一个看书很拖拉的人都忍不住一直往下看，我再次感叹一下女主的想象力和语言描述能力😂 超级自卑多虑内耗的一个人hhh 看了afterword理解更深了一点，她和Rebecca就像是双生一体，Rebecca真的太迷人了，这样一个rebellious的角色也难怪一直haunting她遇到过的人和事，突然想到泰勒斯的歌词"cause darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream" 觉得也蛮符合的。
P.S. 自始自终不知道女主的名字，可把我憋坏了😂
The plot itself isn't that innovative. But the mechanics it employs is inspiring. I especially appreciate the indirect way of Rebecca's being portrayed. By the way, though I can't think up a better Chinese translation of the name "蝴蝶梦", I still think such translation slightly shift the focus from Rebecca to the two living characters.

绝了，我觉得是很适合姑娘们阅读的书，在每个为女性量身定制的童话美梦后都有极现实的剧情来锤你。就算在一切尘埃落定侥幸逃过一劫之后，“我”又开始做起一个好妻子一个女主人的梦时，Rebecca也和Manderley一同毁灭，太妙了

这个女主角内心戏也是很足，可以想出一个世界，真的好(sui)细(sui)腻(nian)，就这么想了一本书……极端女性视角如果不是年代在那里我真觉得有些campy了

剩最后两个小时，弃。实在受不了了。一点不能认同女主和Mr de Winter，这种敢杀不敢认的人。。那么最后四分之一篇幅一直在说谎，企图苟活，还那么恬然。越看女主小人得志的样子越喜欢Rebecca。。

世界上最棒的小说开头。写得太好了，角色完成度高，内在世界的表述恰如其分，复杂的情节滴水不漏，除了玛丽苏没有任何缺点，谋篇和用词让人受益匪浅。上学的时候看过两块钱的那个译本，翻译得也很不错。
