A mind not to be chang'd by Place or Time.
The mind is its own place, and in it self
Can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n. //Awake, arise, or be forever fall’n (Book 1, line 330) // Nor grateful Evening mild; nor silent Night
With this her solemn bird; nor walk by moon,
Or glittering star-light without thee is sweet. (Book IV, 652)
写此书目的就是against monarchy and regain the liberty for England。
以最喜欢的一段话为结 “The World was all before them, where to choose … They hand in hand with wandring steps and slow,/Through Eden took thir solitarie way.” Chris
What is the difference between God and devil? What is the difference between man and angel? What is free will, if anything, predicted by God? What is fall, if anything, begetting us? For me paradise lost is more than an epic poem, but a myth left by the greatest English poet ever.
I read this book through night and day. It’s beyond my being of existence to give any comment but it’s really a great work. I cried badly when I know the background information.
A blurred pre- and postlapsarian reading of Christian stories (Eden), as well as embedded political critiques (thru Satan and Eve etc). Personally not my favorite only b/c too well-versed to read.
