海明威是“硬汉”不假，然而硬汉的内心深处温柔而充满柔情，这体现在他对爱情人物的描写上，这不是今天所谓的“暖男”可以同日而语的（因为我赞同“暖男是男人中的绿茶婊之说），由于海明威做过战地记者缘故，他的小说语言很是简练、朴实，没有过多的修辞，以及深奥的哲理名词，让人读起来酣畅淋漓。

巨细靡遗的对话和内心独白的写法，来回切换的人称叙事，感觉更像剧本了。革命浪漫主义，结尾看哭得稀里哗啦。最出彩的两章是游击队清洗右翼和死神之味。西班牙内战好像左毒在人类历史的一个缩影，海明威和奥威尔都看得很清楚

老海的中长篇总让我觉得他是在把一个短篇成比例放大。但虽然如此，这一本的确带给我质地相当于其短篇杰作的体验。我暂时没找到很好的给它扣星的理由——就算本来有，看到结局时也没有了。

跟朋友聊到于是重读了一遍，愈发觉得海明威短篇远胜长篇。篇幅一长，一是特征性的电报体缺少变化，多精彩佳章（譬如最后一章）而少全局气脉；二是人道主义的良心病总忍不住发作，多少暴露了硬汉骨子里的单纯天真。

我花了几本上一整个四月的时间读完了这本书中英文版，五百多页密密麻麻的英文单词。虽然是发生在三天之内的故事，但是好像陪他们走过了一生。非常喜欢Maria这样的女人，我觉得她一定会得到幸福。
