There are certain books which are almost painful to read, but extraordinary to think about. This novel is one of them.

Why do people fight? How do people feel in war? What's the position of love in a war? So many things in one book...

4.5. This is definitely a masterpiece, though personally I prefer <A Farewell to Arms>.

Yet one has a feeling within one that blinds a man while he loves you. You, with that feeling, blind him, and blind yourself.

—She said, 'I love that Irish lad, and he was my only joy, and ever since I saw his face, I've loved that soldier boy.' —Perhaps your soldier lad is lost sailing over the sea of Maine. —'Well if my Irish lad is lost, he's the one I do adore, and seven years I will wait for him by the bank of the Moorlough Shore.'

There is only now, why then now is the thing to praise and I am very happy with it.

海鸣威在26、27章的钟表时间里刻入了timelessness,“It was three o'clock.” “The officer looked at the wrist watch. It was ten minutes to three o'clock.” 罗伯特·乔丹就是这样,“maybe I have had all my life in three days.”2)小说的故事时间只有三天,其中穿插了大量的心理描写。

Until now I was still in the sorrow and resentfulness towards Hemingway for putting Robert Jordan in such a meaningless ending. But suddenly I realised, his ending is not meaningless at all. He was still fighting, albeit with great pain, in the last minute of his life. He was destined to kill a fascist officer.
