最初几章内心描写过于重复冗杂，但后面两人一起激情故事变得有趣，Hester的宣讲很震撼。读了原著发现Francis Marion的剧本改编做了好多出色的选择。

脆弱的男人，强大的女人 此时的美国是真正清教徒的新世界和苦修地，殖民地的宗教几乎构成了人所有的社会性，有着绝对的严酷和权威，男人在重压下死去，而女人却带着顽强而野蛮的生命力度过一生，纵使上帝在时代的背景下无比伟岸，却也未能让她质疑过去的道路，反化作一种警醒的力量。 有道言：天下行者多而义者寡，故执辕辙。经书和法度固然重要，也只是减少教化的试错成本，而女主在与之的冲突中师心不师圣，才体现出人治的光辉之处，剧情因此不落流俗。所谓严肃文学的金线绝不是仅仅在于浓厚的情感描写，在读书的时候是得以切身感受到的。 ps:读完书已经有一年了，许多细节已经模糊，记得当时为了学英语，买的中英对照本，吃饭时一时不慎，被汤水冲坏，十分心疼。今天看毛姆的面纱，感觉有相似之处，记录于此。
