任璧莲（Gish Jen），第二代美国华裔作家。1949年前后，其父母从上海迁往美国。她于1955年生于纽约长岛，1977年毕业于哈佛大学，获得英语文学学士学位，而后在斯坦福商学院进修，1983年在爱荷华大学写作班获得小说艺术硕士学位，20世纪八十年代末期开始文学创作。任璧莲和谭恩美、李古思构成第二代美国华裔文学的主将。《典型的美国佬》（TYPICAL AMERICAN）已成为英美文学专业主要的论文题目之一。
