Hamid的处女座，确实较之后的两部文笔要粗糙一些，但一些文学要素的尝试还是一脉相承的。比如moth 和smoke，暗示这种试探，擦边，灼烧的后果，不管是自己的人生还是选择。全书给我一种社会经济很病态，很liftless，没有活力，人也没有出路和希望的颓废，不愿努力，沦为贩毒、出轨、血腥、暴力。
