Anne Brontë wrote as if she were whining about her job and pining for her love, only more truthfully than one usually does, to her confidant. Her talent for social critics came into play, but her lack of introspection to her weakness (Agnes never bothered to make a mistake) and analysis on other characters' dilemmas diminish its intellectual worth.
Must say, I was almost put off by the dry description at the beginning, but things suddenly got interesting since Mr Weston first appears. 可以推测 也许在Anne的心里的确是有这么一个特别的存在的 虽然作为文学作品来说 在描写方面会有些许单一 也和她个人的经历显少有关 但总体而言相对于Villette我会更喜欢这本 带着点恬淡温柔的小美好 让我在合上书的那一刻 还在回味恰好的故事结尾 在心里说上一句: 真好啊 p.s 这一版的注释和further reading list做得太好了 几乎每一例书单之后还附有一句话左右的简介 是值得让懂它之人为之珍藏的一本

Anne的文笔流畅细腻，非常realistic, 表面平淡的故事也不乏动人之处。女主角是middle-class woman, 她的雇主属于upper middle class, 价值观却南辕北辙。
