Emily of New Moon is the first in the trilogy of Emily books penned by famous author Lucy Maud Montgomery. Montgomery had already touched the hearts of readers worldwide with her popular series of books based on Anne of Green Gables.
Originally published in 1923, Emily of New Moon has proven so enduring that it has been made into a national television series. Island actor Martha MacIsaac portrays Emily in this series, filmed on location in Malpeque, PEI

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born in the charming village of New London, PEI, in 1847. She grew up in nearby Cavendish surrounded by the mysterious Atlantic Ocean. Raised by her aged and strict grandparents, many of her childhood experiences are woven into Emily of New Moon.
Montgomery claimed that of all her books, the Emily series was the most autobiographocal. The two titles completing the trilogy are Emily Climbs and Emily's Quest.
Story:
Emily Starr is sure of only two things:she is a broken-hearted orphan and she wants to be a writer. Emily is reluctantly taken in by cold-hearted Aunt Elizabeth to live at New Moon, where she finds a true friend in odd cousin Jimmy and a staunch supporter in fearful Aunt Laura.
Emily's life at New Moon is soon filled with adventure and misadventure as she befriends tomboy Isle and farm hand Perry. Cats and ghosts, family feuds and horrid classmates are all part of everyday life. Emily records everything in her diary, even though Aunt Elizabeth has forbidden her to write.
