事无巨细的多方面着手记述了著名的阿米蒂维尔鬼屋事件，从对当事人卢茨夫妇的纪实采访，来引入他们在这所位于长岛的海洋大道住宅内度过的心惊胆战的二十八天。非常清晰的叙事脉络，以时间发展为序在卢茨夫妇与子女，亲戚朋友，神父几者间切换行文。暴雨夜离家的重头戏写的很好，几乎已经代入了生动的灵异画面，房间气温急速升高后骤然下降，盘踞在窗框的蝇群，被切断的电话线，房间内流窜的蛇形粘液，房屋的阴影永远跟随并笼罩着卢茨一家。
