Ilse Plume was born in Dresden, Germany, and has studied in Florence, Italy, as well as in the United States. Ms. Plume received the Ezra Jack Keats Fellowship in 1985 and the Caldecott Honor in 1981 for The Bremen-Town Musicians . She has illustrated many books for children, including The Twelve Days of Christmas, The Hedgebog Boy, and Salt (also published by Hyperion Books for Children).
