The Beauty Of The Husband is an essay on Keats’s idea that beauty is truth, and is also the story of a marriage. It is told in 29 tangos. A tango (like a marriage) is something you have to dance to the end.
This clear-eyed, brutal, moving, darkly funny book tells a single story in an immediate, accessible voice–29 “tangos” of narrative verse that take us vividly through erotic, painful, and heartbreaking scenes from a long-time marriage that falls apart. Only award-winning poet Anne Carson could create a work that takes on the oldest of lyrical subjects–love–and make it this powerful, this fresh, this devastating.

What is an adjective? Nouns name the world. Verbs activate the names. Adjectives come from somewhere else… Adjectives seem fairly innocent additions but look again. These small imported mechanisms are in charge of attaching everything in the world to its place in particularity. They are the latches of being. (查看原文)

Love is risk, hold beauty. 有点词穷,卡森的好是很显而易见的,每一章都在流光溢彩就好像丝毫不费力气。很俏皮。感叹于她对各种感官感受的杂糅和敏锐,还有对这些奇迹一样的通感描写的掌控程度。文字带着离心力快速冲刷过去,感情也铺天盖地地罩过来。我每次都对她描写两个人静止之间的气息把控印象深刻,真的做到了短暂的一瞬却变成永恒。
偏偏就在最(不)完美的时机读它。"our moral history are they not almost as neat as mathematical / propositions except written on water -", here lies one whose name was writ in water. 写得面目全非,像我正在看的。
