夏濟安　江蘇吳縣人（1916～1965）。上海光華大學英文系畢業，留校任教。

嗣赴內地，先後在西安、昆明西南聯大及北京大學教授英文；來台後任教台灣大學外語系。1955年春赴美，就讀印第安那大學，半年後返國，翌年主編「文學雜誌」，提倡現實主義文學，介紹西方文學和文藝理論。

1959年再度赴美，於西雅圖華盛大學及柏克萊加州大學任教並作研究。著有《夏濟安選集》、《民國三十五年夏濟安日記》、《莫斯科的寒夜》（小說譯本）及《The Gate of Darkness》等書。

夏志清　江蘇吳縣人，1921年生。上海滬江大學英文系畢業，美國耶魯大學英文系博士。

歷任北京大學外語系助教，美國紐約州立大學英文系副助教，美國紐約州立大學英文系副教授，匹茨堡大學中國文學副教授，哥倫比亞大學中國文學副教授、教授。

學貫中西，涉獵廣泛，主張現實主義文學，為著名文學史家、評論家，...

个人感受而已又,提供些许便利与网友

本来想把夏志清的序言按评论贴了,结果有google图书预览,也就没有必要了. 上海译文曾有朱乃长校订的一个本子因为怕造成一些不必要的误会遮去了五篇文章现在这个内地版本似乎有pdf版本人英语水平一般,但看了夏济安评注福克纳小说选段The Bear,深感评注之精微,语言之流畅,远... (展开)

当年上大学时看过,学中文的看这本书就够奇怪的了,一连看上三遍简直无法理解.但这本书就有此等魅力. 因为它告诉你什么是美,什么是妙,又美在何处,妙在哪里,而不是一般的字词用法或语法. 现在回想,这本书很有点新批评的味道. 当年我做了好多摘抄,经常翻读.如今再想读全本,却找... (展开)

这是大学时代时外语学院副院长给我力荐过的一本书，之前电子本看了一部分，发现的确是好书。后来在学校图书馆惊喜地发现竟然有馆藏！兴奋不已。这里推荐给大家，只要开卷就会发现此书魅力。多年过去了，英文选评类图书从未见能出其右者 (展开)

终于在2019年的最后一天读完了这本书，这本书下载了好久，中间经历各种事情，不然就是每天断断续续地一章。最爱的是倒数第三篇，写的是solitary。可能也是因为当时的心境吧，年底了，这么多朋友家人约来约去，见的人越来越多，还是要给自己留点空间。整本书让我感慨，要是我念... (展开)

可惜的是，这本书不再再板了，现代的学生又少了更好开阔英文眼界的途径。夏老中西兼佳！佳作啊！！！！！！从校图书储存书库借来的，花了点小钱复印了看，一段是原文一段是夏老的评论，中西结合，效果尤佳，最有意思的就是他会介绍些文化背景或者雷同之处，很有意思！ (展开)
