第九版简介

jumaomao 2010-06-18 15:26:31

For guidance on every aspect of practicing before the Supreme Court, rely on this trusted source of the Justices law clerks for over 50 years. From literally how to pass through the guarded entrance to get to the Clerk s Office and how to get a library pass to use the Court s library on the third floor,Supreme Court Practice,Ninth Edition is the definitive resource for everything you need to know to prosecute or defend a case before the Supreme Court, including:how properly to invoke the Court s certiorari and appeal jurisdiction.how the Court s original jurisdiction can be invoked.how other extraordinary writs can be sought.how to comply with the Court s precise rules as to the basic contents of petitions and briefs, including the location of Questions Presented, page limits, type fonts, and cover colors. Often cited in opinions by the Court, Supreme Court Practice is written from the authors first-hand knowledge and experience, providing the most comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the Supreme Court available.

When lawyers speak of "Stern and Gressman" as "the bible" on Supreme Court practice, this is the book to which they refer. I suspect lawyers will be calling it "Stern and Gressman" for decades to come, even though Stern's name has been dropped with publication of the ninth edition.

Robert L. Stern and Eugene Gressman coauthored the book's first edition more than half a century ago, in 1950, giving attorneys a handy guide to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Their manual was destined to become the definitive reference for Supreme Court practitioners.

Despite Stern's retirement and then death, at the age of 91 in January of 2000, Stern's name graced the book through its eighth edition, published in 2002. As a consequence, generations of lawyers came to know the manual as "Stern and Gressman." And for many years to come, senior lawyers with business before the Supreme Court will be directing junior partners and associates to "check it in Stern and Gressman."
