• A new threshold in hydraulic engineering was passed in Jerusalem in he year of 700 BC, or sometime very close to that, by the construction of Siloam's Tunnel: 44 This is a 533-metre-long curving tunnel, constructed to carry water from the Gihon Spring, located outside the city wall, to the Pool of Siloam within the city. This is the first known tunnel excavated from both ends simultaneously with a meeting in the middle.
