约翰穆勒说女性的文学没有影响后世的重大原创成果，他做出这个判断显然是对日本文学一无所知。这可以说是时代局限，但在一部阐述性别平等的论著里，出现这种抹杀女性成就的行为，多少有点讽刺。蛮子就是蛮子。
