João Luís Carrilho da Graça (Portalegre, 1952) is an architect, graduated from
Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in 1977.
He was lecturer at the School of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon
between 1977 and 1992 and Professor at the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa
from 2001 to 2010 and at the Universidade de Évora since 2005, where was head
of the Architecture Department until 2010. He has been visiting professor at
Architecture School of the University of Navarra in 2005, 2007 and 2010, and
he has been invited to lecture in seminars and conferences at several international
universities and institutions. Responsible for the creation of the Ph.D Program
in Architecture at the University of Évora, he is Headmaster of the Ph.D. Program
in Architecture and in charge of the 'Laboratory I' and 'Laboratory II' courses at
this University since 2011.
In 2013 he received an Honoris Causa Doctorate Degree by the School of
Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon.
His body of work has been recognized with several awards, including: medal
from L’Academie d’Architecture Française in 2012, the title of Chevalier des Arts
et des Lettres by the French Republic in 2010, the Prémio Pessoa in 2008, the
Order of Merit by the Portuguese Republic in 1999 and the AICA Award by the
International Association of Art Critics in 1992.
He participated in the official representation of Portugal to 13th venice architecture
biennale 2012 'Lisbon Ground' with Lisbon’s Cruise Terminal project and to
12th venice architecture biennale 2010 'No Place Like - 4 Houses 4 Films' with
the Candeias’ House project.
