Remaining on the margins of the outcast community there--a brilliantly imagined collection of eccentrics, criminals, and squatters--he rises above the physical and human squalor with detachment, humor, and dignity.

The problem is that it seems totally pointless. In the under-rated film "Leaving Las Vegas", at least we had a glimpse of where the hero's drunken abandon came from - the loss of his family, his anchor. But in "Suttree", we ended up not having any notion what the quiet despair was all about.
Blood Meridian and Suttree are twin towers of Cormac McCarthy’s work. all in all,是否有值得生活的一生?
