Masterpiece. You can disagree with Spivack's conclusion, but you have to admire the great details he has went into in his discussion. An admirable synopsis of morality plays and early modern drama--historic, substantial, genealogical and encyclopedic. Will be extremely helpful if read against Auerbach's theory of "figura."
