Maugham is undoubtedly a great storyteller , but I think none of the characters in this book is likeable or realistic. And it hasn’t much to do with Christmas 😂 only that the story happened during Christmas holiday.

作为一枚毛姆粉，看完这部小说有点失望了。原因就是再看到Simon那副在尘世中低俗地出世，有点做作了。毛姆讲故事还是讲得一流，可惜故事本身我个人并不待见……

本书的标题商业化了，圣诞这个背景一点都不重要，就是一个英国中产青年只身在巴黎一周受到的精神洗礼，设身处地感受到了他的安全范围以外的世态炎凉局势动乱。关于捷尔任斯基和革命的分析辩论都很有思想性，毛姆真的想得很深。
