Since Henry is about to embark on a cross-country trip in a station wagon with the Glass family of Grover's Corner, New Jersey, it is not too suprising, if you know Henry, that he should decide to collect material for a "top-notch travel book about the United States." His collaborator is none other than his old friend Midge from Henry Reed, Inc. who "turned out to be a good sport and very smart." Not unexpectedly, things go amiss. An innocent little game starts a full-scale California gold rush, the car keys fall into the Grand Canyon, and a casual business deal (HEnry never misses a possibility) turns Denver's Brown Palace Hotel into a scene of near panic.
