《夜》是一盒诗集,也是一块安妮·卡森献给哥哥的迷你墓碑。它以手账的形式,将家书、老照片、速写画、词条与散文诗拼贴在一起,构成一部可触碰的元挽歌。贯穿全书的暗线,是卡森对古罗马诗人卡图卢斯(Catullus)的《第101首诗》的翻译——一首献给亡兄的挽歌。卡图卢斯的兄长与卡森的哥哥,在命运中有诸多暗合。《夜》的每个段落都对应着《第101首诗》中的一个拉丁词,从“Multas”到“Ave atque vale”,逐一探究其字面意义,再由这些词展开对缺席亲人的徒然追忆。卡森以翻译戏仿历史考古,质询记忆与叙事的主观限度。持续存在的爱与心碎,被留存于由风琴折页串联的书盒之中,而诗与现实、纸书与艺术物件的边界,都随记忆消失于夜晚。
Hekataios is describing the sacred phoenix which lived in Arabia but came to Heliopolis in Egypt once every five hundreds years to bury a father there. The phoenix mourns by shaping, weighting, testing, hollowing, plugging and carry towards the light[templle of the sun]. He seems to take a clear view of necessity. And in the shadows that flash over him as he makes his way from Arabia to Egypt he comes to see the immensity of the mechanism in which he is caught, the immense fragility of his own flying - composed as it is of these ceaselessly passing shadows carried backward by the very motion that devours them, his motion, his asking. 概念上到位了,看起来很厚,其实阅读量很小,像一块墓砖,配了一句墓志铭,立意上想到了另一本书蘇菲.卡爾《極度疼痛》,至于价值感仁者见仁吧
