象征手法运用得很娴熟。“南北战争后，没落的南方奴隶贵族和北方自由主义新势力”的碰撞在艾米莉身上有不少显现。艾米莉固执地坚守着作为曾经贵族后代的最后一丝尊严，像灯塔守望者那样紧绷的神经与面容，还有那种难以用语言精准描述的来自他父亲的阻挠与方方面面的限制。不知道为什么她让我稍微想到了《斯通纳》里的伊迪丝（胡乱联想）。 最后的结尾让我轻微惊讶了一下。 听闻这本书蛮久的了，趁着美国文学期末论文有这个关于这本书的论题可供选择，我便毫不犹豫地选了它。没想到这本书这么薄，《献给艾米丽的玫瑰》居然只有9页，剩下的是其他名家的文章，但由于时间限制只读了前者。尽管如此也读了蛮久，文章中有一些句子比较复杂，不少生词，我是和中文译本搭配阅读的（我真的好菜啊哈哈）。

看了《她的回忆》之后慕名补了原作。预料到了结局，但没预料到南北战争的背景和patriarchal的设定。语言非常具有古典的美感。Faulkner第一篇。

福克纳就是福克纳。福克纳自言作品中蕴涵着深深的对南方美国传统的挚爱和怀念，以及致敬。但它的主题显然超越这一简单的层面，而构成一个带有反讽意味的复调式的作品，其中内含有非常多对抱残守缺的封建腐朽的痛斥。此外，福克纳向来对作品结构非常重视。作品中的五章从时间上来看非常对称，第四章艾米丽迅速变老因此给读者带来了更强的冲击力。核心事件则是“爱”。小说的每一章都对戏剧冲突非常强调（对象是艾米丽和“我们”，亦即艾米丽和小镇，还即艾米丽和叙述者，艾米丽就像是包法利夫人艾玛和《大街》中的卡罗尔），其中第一、二、四、五章的冲突是由外向内的，第三章则是艾米丽小姐的向外突围，她高昂着头，性格倔强。这时候的她真像迟子建《暮色里的炊烟》的俄罗斯老太太。文章里的排布都有丰富的象征意味。结尾很妙，有点通感的意思。
