周的方法论是将激进理论中对在场形而上学的批判移植到了性别、视觉和民族的文化研究中。周思考的核心可总结为“抵制”,对资本、父权和强制性异性恋的“抵制”。一方面是通过症候阅读的方式,恢复实在的“厚实性”;另一方面是对“以……之名”言说逻辑的拷问,即是以一种范式去要求另一种范式的批判。与其说周的方法论源自她东方的、女性的文化身份,不如说是丰富了文化研究中的经验论面向。
